Tansy essential oil (Tanacetum vulgare) has a pungent aroma something like a spicy licorice that stimulates a positive attitude and a general feeling of well-being. It was not used much as an essential oil until Gary Young of Young Living Essential Oils discovered its powerful anti-viral, anti-infectious and antibacterial properties.
Wisconsin Tansy oil also has powerful chemical constituents that repell insects, and is an excellent natural insect repellent. It can be used alone or mixed with any of these companion oils to use as a repellent: lemongrass, cypress, thyme, eucalyptus, basil, peppermint, wintergreen, citronella, tea tree, rosemary.
Dr. Len Horowitz and Dr. Sabina Devita recommend Idaho Tansy essential oil, along with other essential oils, for biological warfare preparedness
E. Joseph Montagna, in ‘The Herbal Desk Reference’ on herbal formulas, lists Idaho tansy is soothing to the skin. It helps tone the entire system.
